Testimonials
Just completed the Nov 2017 landscape photography course with Chris Ceaser on the North Yorkshire Coast. With his personal knowledge of the brilliant locations, coupled to first class friendly advice and guidance from Chris, the 4 days could not be bettered. The Lee filters loaned to me have given me a new approach to my techniques and the results are stunning. Definitely a convert to filters. Grateful thanks for an excellent photographic experience. Chris was very generous in sharing both his considerable photographic skills and his knowledge of locations for this four day course on the North Yorkshire Moors and coast. The three of us probably started at different levels of photographic knowledge, but from the start Chris took time to understand our individual experience, our interest, and indeed our cameras. The core of the course was around sunrise and sunset shooting, and the associated use of graduated filters. Between these extremes of daylight Chris took us to several excellent locations for general daylight shooting, and also demonstrated processing of our own images in Lightroom and Photoshop. My understanding of noise reduction, sharpening, dodging, burning and HDR improved considerably in these sessions. Leaving the course with a few of my shots, processed by Chris, has given me a benchmark to aim for in my own processing, and some of the skills to achieve this. Finally, on the residential side the Victoria Hotel at Robin Hood's Bay was excellent, and Chris was also good company over a pint! - Andy Coatsworth (4 day course, Yorkshire Coast, November 2016)
The course was brilliant due to Chris' s vibrant personality, technical skill and encouragement. He presented a simple technique and was able to give individual attention to novices like me, as well as the more advanced, with the limitation of just four course participants. The hotel was superbly located and the sausages at breakfast were excellent! - David Newbegin (3 day course, Yorkshire coast, Mar 2011)
I think "Exhilarating, Enthralling, Enabling, Educational, Exhausting" sums up my feelings about the workshop at Ravenscar. It has been the best photo-course I have ever attended. Thank you, Chris, for not only your expert and patient tuition, but also the work you put in beforehand in planning the course. You have given me renewed enthusiasm to develop my photography and improve my printing skills. - Hayburn Wyke waterfall at first sight was unpromising with little water flowing, a lot of flotsam and poor lighting. However, on a closer look and a bit of log and plastic moving I found a dynamic angle by using a low vantage point with the tripod legs in the water and framing so that the chunky rocks gave a lead into the waterfall. The light improved and I was pleased with the result. - Julia Kaye (3 day course, Yorkshire coast, Mar 2011)
This residential photography workshop was superb. Chris was friendly, approachable and patient, demonstrating an outstanding knowledge of the image making process itself and the locations we visited. We always seemed to be in the right place at the right time! The small group of just 4 people allowed Chris to work with us all whilst we were out in the field, providing a 'critique' on certain shots as we were actually making them. He worked with each of us at our own level and his advice on how to break down the composition of a particular scene was extremely insightful. His overviews on RAW processing, (something I had not encountered before) and simple Photoshop techniques were delivered in an effective manner that was easy to understand. The hotel and the food were of a high standard and this added to the 'holiday' experience. All things considered I felt that the course offered excellent value for money, with the emphasis firmly on making quality images! If you are looking to spend time away with your camera as part of a small, friendly group then I would highly recommend one of Chris's workshops. Philip Thake.
