Chris now presents 2 talks here at his York gallery: (Gallery talks will recommence when it is safe to do so with regard to Covid-19)

Limited to just 12 places per talk these evenings will allow you a personal glimpse into the work of landscape photographer Chris Ceaser as he discusses his work from this most evocative of places. Chris is an award-winning lecturer on photography and these talks, held at his own gallery, are sure to provide a unique glimpse into both his work and his technique.

Venice stirs the imagination and captures the hearts of many who visit. We meet at the gallery from 6.30pm for a 7.00 start. Enjoy a complimentary drink and take a look around before the talk begins. The talk will be presented in four sections with a break after section 2. Venice is a photographer's dream. Old palaces, architectural delights, narrow canals and bridges are everywhere in this city that time forgot. Nothing much has changed over the centuries, the modern Venetians effectively live an ancient Venice that is under constant attack from decay, the sea and a new threat, tourism. So how did this small series of Islands in the Adriatic become the Mediterranean's most powerful force in the 1300's? Where did they find their wealth? And how did it all end? This talk attempts to take you from the foundation of early Venice, to the creation, and demise of an empire. The Venice we see today may look just like it did 700 years ago but many Venetians have left and it is struggling to find a way forward as a city. The talk is based on around 50 of Chris's images that try to capture the heart and soul of this magical place. Together with Chris's superb photography we hope you have a night to remember.

Rome, the eternal city has an amazing story to tell. Founded in the 6th century BC it has endured times of great loss and periods of domination. Rome's history is all around the city for all to see, with perhaps the highlight being the area around the Forum, the place where it all began. The talk covers the formation of this great city, it's leaders and heroes, the rise and fall of the Roman Empire and the city as we see it today with its architecture and bridges. As with the Venice talk, this one is accompanied by, and based on Chris's photography and there will be around 50 images on show, with Chris giving insights into how some of the images were made, what was their inspiration and what they mean to him as a photographic artist.

The talks are priced at just £6. All refreshments included on the night. Contact Chris direct to book on 07920 044094.
